Why don't we go to Bulgaria?

Die Welt

27.05.2019

"Instead of Spain, why don't we go to Bulgaria for a change?" - under this title the German daily newspaper "Die Welt" published a wide travel article of the country.

Here is what we read in it:

"At least once in Bulgaria - why not? The beaches of Spain, Italy and Greece will be overcrowded this summer. At the same time a lot of tourists avoid Turkey because of the fear of terrorist attacks. Just because of these reasons, Bulgaria is starting to become more intensively an alternative destination for many. But even if we put aside what the tourists feel, Bulgaria can offer much more than "skyscrapers for sleeping and cheap alcohol".

Purer and Bluer

In the beginning the author of the article Arnd Petry mentions his stay in Kamen Bryag: "In the village live about 70 people. Between Kamen bryag and the limestone rocks above the sea lies a green carpet of grass, which is blossomed in red, yellow and violet. Above that is a wide sky, which looks purer and bluer than anywhere else in the world.

If you go on a short walk near the sea, south of Kamen Bryag, you will reach the diggings beside Yailata. There are not only the interesting ruins of the Byzantine fort from the fifth century, but also the caves, which are more than a hundred. At that time in one of those caves the monks even made their own little church. But the thing that was most impressive to me was the landscape: wide and desolate. You can count the tourists on the fingers of your hand.

From Yailata you can make your way to Cape Kaliakra, which extends like a two-kilometer wedge into the Black Sea and is surrounded by a nature reserve. In the middle of the path of the steep shore is a gap, through which one can see the little beach of Bolata.", the author writes.

Futher into the travel article we read about the nature reserve, inhabitted by nearly 150 bird species, and how long ago it has entered the catalogues of ornithologists around the whole world.
