RAZLOG

Razlog is a town and ski resort in Razlog Municipality, Blagoevgrad Province in southwestern Bulgaria. It is situated in the Razlog Valley. The town is just 155 kilometers away from Sofia and just 6 kilometers away from the most developed winter resort in Bulgaria - Bansko.

HISTORY

Two Thracian tribes – ‘dii’ and ‘satri’ - were the first to settle in the area of present-day Razlog. In 847, Razlog was included in the territory of Bulgaria during the rule of Khan Pressian. Thereafter, the town shared the fate of other Bulgarian lands with the major exception being its non-inclusion in the liberated territories following the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878. Razlog was eventually liberated following desperate uprisings by its citizens and the population of neighbouring areas - namely the Kresna-Razlog (1878) and the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie (1903) uprisings of the Pirin region.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO

The guests of Razlog should definitely visit the numerous craft workshops, weavers, knitters, artists - people who carry the spirit of the traditions of the town. In Razlog there are 41 residential houses of the revival architectural style, of the Razlog-Chepino house type have the qualities of monuments of culture.

Razlog is a huge transport center. Every day regular bus lines connect the town with Bansko, Blagoevgrad, Sofia, Gotse Delchev, Velingrad and many other villages!

The location of the town turns it into a very comfortable starting position for mountain tracks in Rila and Pirin.

In short Razlog can be described as a small but very alive town. The local people are working hard for it to look beautiful and cosy. The local people have preserved their traditional customs and are regularly performing them. One of the most important celebrations for Razlog is New Year eve and the welcoming of the new year.

Very soon a huge golf course will open in the vicinity of the town. Huge investments were made for the completion of the project, so very soon golf lovers will have the opportunity to practice their favorite sport in a comfortable and luxurious complex.
