POMORIE

Pomorie is the third largest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. It is famous as a Spa and balneological centre for its healing lye from the Pomorie lake and mineral water springs in the city.

Pomorie is located on a narrow rocky peninsula on the Black Sea coast.
The peninsula is located 18 km northeast of Burgas, 16 km from Nessebar and 396 km from Sofia.

To the north Pomorie borders the Pomorie Lake and connects with the Pomorie field that is part of Bourgas Valley.

Pomorie is the third largest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast after Varna and Burgas.

The town is the administrative centre of the Pomorie Municipality.

Pomorie has gradually developed into spa and balneo resort, thanks to the mineral water springs in the city and the healing properties of the mud extracted during the production of salt in Pomorie Lake.

"Via Pontica" migratory route passes through Pomorie, where birds nest by the Pomorie Lake.

The average air temperature and water in July is +23,6°C, the number of sun per year up to 2360 hours. The winter is mild, with minimal rainfall.
A beach of Pomorie is about 5 km long.

Pomorie is a tourist destination with ancient architectural monuments and houses.
The town was founded as a Greek colony named Anhialo in the V century BC. Much of its inhabitants were Thracians. The town especially reached its zenith during the Roman rule.

There are bars and restaurants, hospitals, schools, vocational school of tourism and kindergartens in Pomorie.

Convenient transport links connect Pomorie with Sofia, Burgas, Varna and other towns and resorts. Burgas Airport is only 8 km away.

The Pomorie Bay is preferred for sailing boats and fishing.

    The town of Pomorie offers a great selection of cafes, bars and restaurants in contemporary and traditional styles, including those in hotels. Some restaurants are Peneka, Manz 1 and 2, Zeus, At The Americans, beach complex Atrium and others. Fresh fruits and vegetables can be bought from locals or from the market. Lovers of rural and eco-tourism can visit the villages Gorica, Bata, Kozichino, Galabets. Near Pomorie is located ethno-complex "Chateau Medovo". One of the attractions in the complex is the Street of Crafts, where different foods like Turkish delight, halva, coffee on sand, white jam, and others delicacies can be tried and bought.

    THEATRES There are 2 theaters in Pomorie: children's theater group "Firefly", created in 1994 in the community center "Light" and theater from 1999 from the "Prosveta" centre. MUSEUMS Salt Museum - the only museum of salt in Bulgaria, opened in 2002 near the Pomorie Lake. The museum is part of 100 tourist sites of Bulgaria. This is the only place in Bulgaria where salt-mines using ancient salt production technologies continue to operate. Pomorian lye used for the treatment of skeletal and skin diseases is extracted during the salt production process. The historical museum offers exhibits from the 2500-year history. Here are exposed much of the artifacts discovered during archaeological excavations in the area. CHURCHES AND MONASTERIES When strolling around Pomorie, do not miss to visit some of its Christian temples – St. George Monastery, the Church of the Transfiguration of God – the oldest building in the town, the Birth of the Virgin Mary Temple, etc. EVENTS May 6 - Day of the city.     In the vicinity of the town of Pomorie there are some interesting sites to visit: - Village of Sarafovo with good opportunities for recreation, located 6 km south of Pomorie. - Atanasovsko lake is located in a large lagoon south of Sarafovo. The waters of the lake are very salty and it is used for the extraction of salt. - Pomorie Lake, where salt is mined and the lye of the lake is used for treatment. Throug Pomorie passes Via Pontica migration route and at the area of the lake about 269 species of nesting birds can be seen. - Wine Cellar "Via Pontica" with wine tastings. - Ethno-complex "Chateau Medovo" with the crafts street, where craftsmen produce pottery, knives, silver, textiles, carvings and more, using original methods of the Bulgarian medieval. It can be observed production of various foods such as Turkish delight, halva, coffee on sand, white jam, and others.
