BURGAS

Burgas is the second largest city at the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria, and the fourth largest city
in Bulgaria. Burgas is economic, transport and cultural center in Southeast Bulgaria, but also the administrative center of Municipality Burgas.

It is located 382 km from the capital Sofia, 115 km from the city of Varna and 253 km from the city of Plovdiv.

Burgas is located at the westernmost point of the Black Sea in the eastern part of the Burgas
Plain. The city is surrounded by lakes Burgas, Atanassovsko Lake and Mandra Lake.
There is an international airport, several bus and railway stations, the biggest Bulgarian port, the only Oil port in the country and The Black Sea Fleet.

Many tourists are attracted by the clean and maintained beaches of Burgas, as well as
The Annual Festival of the city, the Festival of Sand Sculptures and The Burgas Music Festival.
Burgas is among the richest and most diverse natural and protected areas.

Next to Strandja Mountain Natural Reserve, the town is a starting point for many treks and ecological adventures. Very famous are the free natural mud pools nearby the Atanassovsko Lake.

    Aquae Khalid is a place with rich history, where many archaeological artifacts are found -
    The walls of the ancient city Therme (Thermopolis), Roman baths from I c. AD with hot and
    cold pool and many other medieval rooms.

    The complex is accessible for tourists, where they can visit the restored bath Suleiman the Magnificent. It serves as an active museum in which visitors can watch a film created on 3D A mapping. The complex has a multi-functional building with a café and a souvenir shop. The atmosphere is enriched by fountains, recreation centres, green lawns and fully functional amphitheater.

    City symbols of Burgas:

    - The Bridge. A walk around Burgas normally ends with a walk across The Bridge to downtown
    city. The Bridge is a natural outcome of the oldest part of the Sea Garden and enters 300 meters
    offshore.

    The Sea Garden and other parks

    The city has numerous parks.

    The Sea Garden has an area of about 600 acres and is the
    largest park in the city. It is a monument of national importance, built in 1891
    The garden is about 5 km long and stretches along the beach.
    The garden is planted with ornamental trees, shrubs and flower beds. There arfe sculptures
    busts of famous Bulgarian and foreign Revival, freedom fighters, writers,
    actors and others.

    There is a beautiful panoramic views of the Bay of Bourgas to Pomorie, Sozopol
    Northern foot of Strandzha Mountain.

    The casino, summer theater with 2,000 seats, a retractable roof and the summer stage
    "Snail" is located in the Sea Garden. In the summer there are organized musical and
    theater performances, events and exhibitions.

    Borisova Garden is centrally located in the district of "Renaissance". The park alleys are constructed in the shape of an anchor. In the northern part of the park is the Youth House, in southern - tennis court and football field.

    Other major parks in Burgas are Sunrise Park and Park Slavejkov; Park Veleka; Park Sarafovo, which is a natural continuation of the Sea Garden; Park Kapcheto on the eastern slope of the hill Malka Beach; Kraimorie Park; Park of Health at the Burgas mineral baths.

    Lake Park north of Seaside Park, between The lake and Residential Complex Sunrise There are tennis courts and horse riding circuit. Also every summer here takes place The Festival of Sand Sculptures.

    In the park Rosenets (Otmanlii) on the northern slopes of Strandzha mountain one could find the

    Pools of mud and lye are located in the southern part of The lake. It is a natural free "spa". The black mud is a proven cure for treatment of various diseases.

    Beaches

    The central beach in Burgas is about two kilometers long and 30 meters wide. Located next to Lighthouse Burgas and The Sea Garden. Each year the town hosts an international music festival
    Spirit Of Burgas. The beach is maintained, there are showers and changing rooms, umbrellas and sunbeds are free. Tourists play volleyball, football, beach tennis.

    The north beach in Burgas is located along the The Sea Garden. The beach is long 1700 meters wide and 38 meters. The beach is clean, with lots of restaurants and bars, 2 and 4 football,volleyball, 3 stands for the fans and one playground.

    Saltpans beach is secluded and quiet beach. It is located further north of the North
    beach to The lake and Burgas saltpans, where there are natural pools
    mud, salt and lye. Their visit is free.
    The beach is covered with black, clean, fine sand. Here come the lovers and kite
    windsurfing.
    The beach has free parking and free wi-fi internet.

    Sarafovo beach is 14 km north of Burgas and 12 km southwest of Pomorie.
    The beach with fine sand, the water is shallow and clean. The beach is urban-type bars,
    sunbeds and parasols, pedalos and other water attractions.

    Beach Kraimorie is located in a small resort Kraimorie district of Burgas.
    Located in Bay Chengene Scaffolding, 10 km from the city center. The area has natural

    Rosenets beach is a natural outcome of the eponymous park (known as "Otmanli").
    Located in the village of Atia, 15 km south of Burgas and 19 km north of Sozopol.
    The beach is wild and pure, surrounded by greenery and cliffs overlooking the island "Saint Anastasia".
    The park has pavilions, barbecue area and sports pitches.

    Surroundings

    - St. Anastasia Island 6 km southeast of Burgas. At its highest point is located preserved monastery "St. Anastasia "by 8 in., Renovated in the 19th c., Inactive, declared a cultural monument.

    The history of the island and the monastery is shrouded in mystery and legends of treasures and pirates. The island appeared after a volcanic eruption and it is rocky, dry and scarce vegetation. As a result there are interesting rock formations.

    - Ropotamo River, which flows into the Black Sea. There are boat trips to the mouth of the river.
    Reserve Velyov pool (Water Lilies) covers part of the old bed of the river Ropotamo.

    - The four Burgas Lakes - Atanasovsko, Pomorie, Mandra and Burgas are among natural attractions in the area.

    Bourgas Lake is the largest natural lake in Bulgaria with an area of 27.6 square kilometers and depth of 1.3 meters. There is a population of different species, 60 species of fish, 60 invertebrates and 254 species of birds. In Lake nesting pelicans, ibises, herons.

    Around Pomorie Lake is the spa resort of Burgas Mineral Baths.

    - Strandja Nature Park is about 57 km from Bourgas. Strandja is an important resting place and feeding of the birds migratory route Via Pontica. The mountain is covered with oak and beech forests and with the rich and varied plant life in Bulgaria.

    - Ancient and medieval fortress of Foros peninsula in Poda in neighborhood Kraimorie.
    Here are the preserved remains of the lost city, the predecessor symbol of Burgas -
    ancient and medieval fortress and port Burgos / Poros. Found remains of
    mythical ancient tower depicted on the emblem of Burgas. The Fortress was founded in the mid-II
    century Roman emperor Antoninus Pius.
