SOZOPOL

Sozopol, Bulgaria - Property and real estate review - Tourist Information

Sozopol is situated on a picturesque peninsula in the southern part of the Bourgas Bay, about 35 km from Burgas and 416 km from Sofia. It is one of the oldest towns on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

Sozopol is divided into the Old and New Town, and the Sea Garden is located between them. The old part of the town is located on a small peninsula "Skamniy", which is connected by an artificial embankment and breakwater with St. Kirik island, 250 m northwest of Sozopol. The northern part of the peninsula ends with Skamni cape and the southern one - with Harmanite cape.

The newest part of the city, Harmanite neighborhood, is located along the Gulf Korenyata reaching Budjaka Peninsula. The southern boundary of the town outline Budjaka Peninsula and Kavatsi Bay. "St. Ivan" island and a small island of "St. Peter" are situated in the bay.

The area of the town is characterized by a highly indented coastline, sea terraces, numerous estuaries, medium and small beaches. Within the city the beaches are bigger - these are the beaches Central (North) and Harmanite. About a third part of the Harmanite beach is occupied by sand dunes. Peninsulas between the bays have a lot of underwater cliffs and surface rocks.

Sozopol's relief to the west is characterized by slopes dissected by deep mountains. To the southwest of the city is situated Bakarlaka Mount, 376 m.

The climate in Sozopol is among the humid subtropical and Mediterranean climate, with warm, but windy winters (average temperature in January is + 6°C) and long, hot summers (average temperature in July is + 27°C).

There are several protected areas around Sozopol, for the conservation of endangered animal and plant species.

The old town of Sozopol is preferred for walks because of the small streets and old houses. In the new part of the city are located many hotels and restaurants.

The accommodation options in Sozopol are varied - luxury hotels, small family hotels, guest houses, bungalows. In the immediate vicinity to the town several campings are located as "Garden", "Zlatna Ribka", "Kavatsi", "Veselie" and "Smokinya".

There are many monuments, artistic performances and events, restaurants and entertainment venues, port services, yacht clubs and other opportunities for sea sports and recreation in Sozopol.

Sozopol attracts many Bulgarian and foreign tourists with its cultural and historical past, its preserved architecture from the XVIII and XIX century and the beautiful atmosphere of the Old Town, beaches and campings, as well as the annual Festival of Arts "Apolonia".
